As early as possible. You can make the request at any time, but give them as much time as possible to review the request and provide an appropriate academic adjustment.
Once the school agrees that you should receive the adjustments, they will meet with you to discuss your disability and needs, as well as the school’s program.
The school cannot require you to pay anything for any aids or services. They can’t charge you more than they charge students without disabilities. Generally, schools may NOT:
- Refuse to provide academic adjustments based on available of funds
- Refuse to spend more than a certain amount on academic adjustments
- Refuse to provide academic adjustments because they believe someone else will provide those adjustments
If the academic adjustments the school provides don’t work, it’s your responsibility to tell them as soon as possible. Then you and the school can work together to solve the problem.
